Fondling your guns lately?

I've found myself cleaning all my guns, doing ammunition inventory, casting lead ingot, and shopping for more guns and reloading supplies lately. I wonder if it is some sort of psychological response to the current economic disaster. Anyone else experiencing the same phenomena?

Nah not really. I haven't touched my GLOCK in couple weeks though, needs a good clean, so I'll try and dust it off on Monday. Otherwise I lose my normal tack-driving accuracy without practice. =)

Guns don't solve collapsing economies anyway.

Still, there is some sort of reassurance in being able to outgun the hungry zombies... if necessary.

Question...What's a good 12 guage round for close quarters combat?

Point-blank range...anything.

Zero to ~60 yards...#4 buckshot, #1 buckshot, 0 buckshot, 00 buckshot, slug.

For overpenetration concerns, maybe #4 buckshot.

All I have are target loads....Will they do the job?

I've been a little more paranoid lately and seem to be making sure I have firepower close by at all times. Since Ike, we have had a lot more people in my area of Texas and some of them seem to be a little different.

I went on a buying spree one week before the mid term elections in 2006 and didn't slow down until I started buying pm's last November. I'm good on guns and ammo, I'm still buying pm's hand over fist though.

Yes...checking ammo inventory...sighting in rifles...ordered a Stag Arms 3-H AR-15 flattop upper with Burris 1X short mag riflescope for wife, because she tends to have problems with iron sights (lazy eye).

You've gotta believe that criminals flock to disaster scenes. It is so easy to take advantage of people amidst all the confusion.

Not really recommended except for maybe across a small room ~10-15 feet...

Go out to Walmart and buy you some 00 Buck and a box or two of slugs.

I try to" dry squeeze" every other day.

The more familiar you arm with firearms the better.

You can't never have too much ammo.

It's the criminals flocking from the disaster areas that have me concerned. I was on the hike and bike trail the other night and there were 2 dudes loitering and drinking beer at one of the benches with there backpacks...this is not normal. They both looked at me directly and held their gaze, I looked back at them and held my gaze (I was armed). They were gone by the time I got back from my walk, but they just left their beer cans on the ground, and there was a trash can right there.

I'm keeping my eye out for everything.

#1 Buckshot, it has more room for error than 00 buckshot. At least in my humble opinion.

Reread FerFal's stuff. I tote a single stack, been thinking about going to one of the doubles-discretion is an issue though.
Yes, been thinking about guns. And yes, I do think it is a kind of coping mechanism. So be it.

Yep, fondling all my guns and buying magazines and buying ammo and fondling my guns some more.

Until you brought it up, I thought it was just me. :bear_tongue:

I've also compiled a short list of more guns to buy - mostly in the AK family.

It sure helps me sleep better at night. :Zzzz:

No. You can hash out the many reasons why ballisticaly they are inferior. At near contact ranges they will be effective, but out past a few feet (even across a room) they simply do not maintain enough energy to get any real penetration. You might put an eye out, lol.

I've seen plenty of shotgun wounds over the years and virtually all of them have been with 'bird shot' 7, 7.5 or 8 and they make a mess but are hardly ever worse than 'skin deep'. You want to stop the threat, not piss it off.

The difference between that and the handful of victims who make it to me alive after being shot with actual buck shot is night and day. these people are always one breath away from death and are completely out the fight (unlike those getting hit with bird shot).

If all you have is target loads, it's better than nothing. But go to walmart and for 7 bucks you can buy 15 rounds of buck shot (be it #4 all the way up to the O's). It's not the fancy super dooper ultra tactical stuff, but it'll more than get the job done.

Basically you want pellets equal to or greater than a .22lr round. Cut open one of your target rounds and look at the pellets. #8 is like grains of sand almost.

At indoor home ranges you won't see hardly any spread. So getting #4 buck over OO is a moot point IMO.

And to think if you had shot them dead when you saw them you would've prevented all that beer-can-dropping mayhem.
But it's too late now.

If it was me, I would have shot them dead right then and there and I'd just tell the cops that they held their gaze too long.
Case closed. :D

I would really hate like hell to be hit with a target load, and a light low brass shot will not penetrate drywall (hate that crap) and injure a loved one in the next room.
But it will totally f-up any home invaders day.:applause_

Ahh the skeet range, had an opportunity to go to a skeet shoot a few years back, GAWD what a hoot, never done that before, it was all paid for by this group I had done some work for, I brought along my old single shot:D, the fancy boys all laughed and giggled and even point at me, but damed if I did not kick some butt, I shot a case and a half of shells...(not box and a half CASE and HALF)oh what fun, these old boys were hollering pull with their fancy shot guns already up to their shoulders, me...well I holler pull, then bring my shot gun up and shoot.
we were doing that bird and rabbit thing and damed if I was not doing as good with my single shot reloading as these fellas were with their over unders.
sore shoulder...well it was bruised like crazy but what do you expect from 2 hours of constant shooting and grinning, I bet my cheeks were more tied and sore from grinning ear to ear than my shoulder, and that aint no small thing!

I've never seen buckshot at Wal-mart this cheap.

I have 3 good 12ga pumps I could use some more ammo.
